Oppidan x Rugby School Thailand

Oppidan Education and Rugby School have developed a new partnership delivering mentorship programmes for Year 10 and Year 12 students.

This collaboration represents an exciting step in equipping students with the skills needed to thrive academically, personally and life beyond school.

What’s happening?

Year 12: The Peer Mentor Training Journey

The Year 12 programme focuses on developing peer mentorship skills, empowering students to become leaders within their school community. Based on Oppidan's successful Peer Mentor Training Journey—delivered to over 150 schools in the UK and internationally—this programme trains older students (Year 12) to mentor younger students (Year 9/10), fostering leadership, empathy and communication skills.

The programme consists of three 60-minute modules delivered in small groups led by an Oppidan mentor:

  • Introduction to Mentoring

  • What Makes a Good Mentor?

  • Hit the Ground Running

Year 12 students will reflect on their mentorship experiences, honing their ability to guide and support younger peers. This initiative underscores Rugby’s commitment to developing global citizens who make a positive difference in the world.

Year 10: Skills Journey

The Year 10 programme, delivered in groups, helps students develop key executive function skills.

  • Self-confidence: teaching students how to learn builds a strong foundation for success in public exams.

  • Enhanced independence and responsibility: understanding how to plan, prioritise and manage tasks helps students to become independent, self-sufficient learners.

  • Reduced stress and anxiety: helping students to manage their workload and responsibilities reduces the stress and anxiety that comes with busy school schedules.

Through this programme, our students develop essential mentoring and coaching skills, fostering a cohort of reflective, critical thinkers who appreciate the value of independent learning, self-reflection, and soft-skill development. Both Oppidan and the RST Sixth Form team place great importance on Character Education, ensuring our students grow not just academically—with outstanding AS and A Level results—but also in their broader personal and professional development, equipping them with key 21st-century skills.

This partnership underscores our commitment to nurturing global citizens who strive to make a positive impact. We are proud to collaborate with Oppidan, whose proven track record with prestigious schools across the world—makes them an ideal partner in this endeavour.
— Greg Threlfall, Assistant Head (Sixth Form)

It is truly an honour to support and guide the Oppidan mentors. We are incredibly proud that nearly 30% of our Year 12 cohort chose to volunteer for this inaugural programme, demonstrating their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of younger students within our community.
— Carolyn Pearce, Head of Year 12
